South Coast Marine Story
Where it all began...
South Coast Marine, Costa Mesa CA
Founded by Roby Irvin in 1978
A MATTER OF VALUE, NOT MONEY
In a world of ever increasing bureaucracy and mass production for the lowest common denominator there is s still an alternative for yachtsmen interested in individuality and standard of excellence. South Coast Marine was founded in 1978 on the concept of custom design and quality at prices comparable to the common production boat. A custom yacht is a unique vessel that reflects much of the owner's personality: One who is not satisfied with the average and desires something uniquely theirs. These owners have joined the select small world of people interested in uncompromising quality.
One need not have a "mega-buck" bank account to realize these goals-just the desire and ability to discern the value of true craftsmanship. South Coast Marine's novel approach to custom yacht-building can satisfy that perceptive yachtsman.
PICKING A HULL
The basis for your custom yacht is a fiberglass hull and deck that is currently on the market as a stock item. You save at the outset because South Coast Marine does not pass on the costs of flooring a vast amount of tooling, yet our purchasing power is such that we can make the best buys possible on all the components for your yacht. These savings we pass on to you.
A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP
Having a custom yacht built is not "impulse buying," but once the decision is made, South Coast Marine will assist you in the myriad of choices that will be made during the completion of the project. We will work with you in selecting your hull, designing an interior, deck layout, rigging, etc. The building process can take several months to a year, depending on the size and complexity of the boat and always involves a close relationship between the owner and builder. To ensure that you get the boat you want in the end, it is our job to interpret for you. We feel we should build a boat to fit the person, not the other way around.
PRIDE AND SKILL
All the craftsmen at South Coast Marine are both dedicated and motivated. They either live aboard or have cruised extensively, so there is a vast mount of practical knowledge as to what will and will not work. Every craftsman in the shop has the pride and skills to do the job right. Every boat that leaves the South Coast Marine yard is a handcrafted work of art as well as a serious sailing machine.
South Coast Marine is also happy to help the owner who wishes to do some of the finishing himself. We can furnish a boat to any stage of completion required and supply parts and hardware to finish the job.
If the concept of custom construction on a money saving stock hull appeals to your sense of independence and practicality please contact us with your requirements as we can discuss the options open to you to make your dream a reality.
